system-switch-mail

i have a VPS im renting which has CentOS 4 on it.

before it had sendmail for its MTA but i want to switch to postfix. apparently so i need to use system-switch-mail to do this. i uninstalled sendmial and installed postfix. then i used YUM to install system-switch-mail and i tried to run it at the command prompt

> system-switch-mail
TERM environment variable needs set.

my host has some weird setup that i hate in which the enviroment variables are messed up. so what i need is a way to do system-switch-mail manually or maybe theres a way to send in arguments after system-switch-mail to do the task.

MrSako, I think we finally hit pay dirt on the fedora forum as per my post on your other thread.

Please have a look at

http://linuxhelp.blogspot.com/2005/0...agent-mta.html

Please let me know if I can help any further.

Rgds

Bill

Edit - use the option alternatives --config mta

Did the link I gave you work?

To be clear, as root type

# alternatives --config mta

and follow the instructions on screen

reading... http://linuxhelp.blogspot.com/2005/0...agent-mta.html

[root@vps ~]# alternatives --display mta
mta - status is auto.
link currently points to /usr/sbin/sendmail.postfix
/usr/sbin/sendmail.postfix - priority 30
slave mta-mailq: /usr/bin/mailq.postfix
slave mta-newaliases: /usr/bin/newaliases.postfix
slave mta-pam: /etc/pam.d/smtp.postfix
slave mta-rmail: /usr/bin/rmail.postfix
slave mta-sendmail: /usr/lib/sendmail.postfix
slave mta-mailqman: /usr/share/man/man1/mailq.postfix.1.gz
slave mta-newaliasesman: /usr/share/man/man1/newaliases.postfix.1.gz
slave mta-sendmailman: /usr/share/man/man1/sendmail.postfix.1.gz
slave mta-aliasesman: /usr/share/man/man5/aliases.postfix.5.gz
Current `best' version is /usr/sbin/sendmail.postfix.

not sure abuot this stuff it looks confusing.. sendmail.postfix???

btw mi sorry i didnt see your post i thought i had refreshed the page before bumping it. I forgot to take the # out of the end of the url before refreshing)

That looks OK. Is that after you ran alternatives --config mta, or before?

The only real difference I see between your setup and mine is that I have

mta - status is manual

sendmail.postfix is fine (you'll see a reference to this in main.cf).

how do i set it to manual?

does this mean i dont need to worry about the system-switch-mail stuff and its a different problem? (as what we were talking about in http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=467257 )
