Question System changes requiring root privileges do not work

KDE's clock insists that I am in Moscow. I'm not, so I'd like to change the clock to reflect my location. However, when I click on 'change date/time', it asks for the root password. When I type in the root password, nothing else happens.

This is very strange. I've also noticed that anything in the control center that requires root access simply will not work, even when I'm actually logged in as root.

Any ideas? This isn't a big deal, but it could definitely become a big deal soon.

I'm using RedHat 9 with KDE 3.1 on a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop.

Thanks,

-n.
