System Boot

I Have mandriva 2006 powerpack. I recently installed Core Update for mandriva.. Now when I start the machine up I have 4 choices instead of 3... It was just
  1. Linux
  2. Failsafe
  3. Windows

after update its now
  1. Linux
  2. Failsafe
  3. 2612-12
  4. Windows

Is this new option the update?? Isn't it suppose to turn itself into Linux option? Is there anyway I can Change the options? Thanks!! Newbie btw..

The 2612 sounds like a backup of your old kernel, should the new one malfunction. If everything works fine with Linux, and the 2612 really really bothers you, you can take it out of your grub.conf (if you use GRUB) or lilo.conf (if you use LILO). I'm a Kubuntu man, so I don't know what mandriva uses nowdays. I'd be careful with editing those files though (esp. if you're a newbie), if you screw things up, your system will become unbootable.
