syslog-ng rotation

Hi all,

I have installed syslog-ng on debian 7

I need to rotate log file which is "messages" like this

on daily basis, compress it and adding history extension for each daily rotated file.

where to put configurations that does that:

/etc/logrotate.d/syslog-ng or somewhere else.

I woudln't suggest using date suffixes on your files, it makes them unique and untrackable by logrotate. just rotate them with general purpose logrotate names as you see fit, this really has nothign at all to do with syslog-ng, as there is no rotation needed /possible if you want to write to unique files, you'd just use a cron job to delete old files matching a certain pattern.
