Post syslog-ng

I'm fairly new to this list...
I have a router and a few linux boxes. the router runs SYSLOG-NG just like all other linux boxes. I want the router to send its logs to all linux boxes. the thing is that the other workstations are not always running, unlike the router. I thought transmitting the syslog messages via UDP would do. UDP packets (unlike TCP) don't require acknowledge packets from the other site.. ok, so why is my syslog-ng telling me that the connection is broken?

destination loghost { udp("alex" port(514)); };
destination loghost2 { udp("navi" port(514)); };

log { source(src); destination(console_all); destination(loghost); destination(loghost2); };

machine alex is currently up and running, therefore this connection is established.

here is my question: how can I bring syslog-ng to accept the fact, that boteh logging hosts may be down ? and if they're up, THEN send them the logs...
