synchronising mp3 collections

I have copied my music iTunes music collection from my powerbook to my linux pc for backup and am now looking for a way of only copying the new files as I rip more CDs.

I've tried a GPL MacOSX app (synk) but it wants to copy files that are already there despite date and size being identical. Anything I could use on the linux side ? I have looked at rsync but was a bit overwhelmed by its complexity. A link to a simple howto could be useful too though.
