Sync Linux and Sony W810i cell phone
hello there!
i have searched in quite a few corners of the internet but found nothing to synchronise my linux box (ubuntu dapper) with my new SE W810i cell phone.
Basically, it would be nice to:
- upload MP3s through the usb port to the phone (it is supposed to be as much a walkman as a phone)
- synch contacts with evolution
- synch calender
is there a linux app out there capable of that? or is that phone too new for that yet?
Warning: At least the SuSE 9.2 KDEPIM install some .so libraries to a
wrong directory. If "KDE address book" does not show up as a plugin choice, find the
libraries and copy them to where the other reside. (rpm -v -v helps to see what
is going on)...
Select Bluetooth, click Configure, enable Bluetooth on machine, make phone visible,
find, select phone. guess channel (try 1-10 and click "test" until it works. I believe
"8" worked for me).
Select "Backup" as 2nd plugin, configure a new directory in it's options. Do the sync :-)
Would you please try it out and let me know if it works before I order the phone ? ;-)
Yes, but only recently, thank you.
Anyway, these guys won't (or can't) sync via Bluetooth, you'd
have to buy a cable that is/was not included with the phone...
Right now, I hope that "no way" can verify that the W810i works... :-)

Cheers, Tom.
The cables are not expensive, Mine was 12.00$ US including shipping for what it's worth.
Good luck.
Hello no way,
any news from the Phone ? Sounds like you ordered it from overseas ;-)
Anyway, I just stumbled over "one more app": http://kmobiletools.org/
This is surely also nice, but I believe Multisync is what one would want first...
Cheers, Tom.

news? yes, bad ones: 3 to 4 weeks delivery time. i must be no "1st priority customer" of my provider (o2 germany) and they just told me that people who order the phone without discussing the price get their phone quicker!!!
Okay, I now have a SE K750i which connects much better than the Moto.
I have kinda trouble with the Multisync GUI, it's completely messed up on newer SuSE releases (you have to guess at the position and state of some checkboxes) but didn't get around to do much with that. Backup using Multisync works anyway. To do more, it might be worth to hold the breath for the successor OpenSync.
Anyway, I wasted most of my time trying to connect it to my BMW Bluetooth "Headset". BMW told me, the firmware in the K750i is too new and doesn't work anymore with the car ... Aaaaargh...
Seriously, you and me and other people who stumble upon this thread: We should put up a wiki page for K750i/W800 connectivity, and collect links, info and what does and what does not work. I might do one for the BMW, too ;-)

hello cheesus,
i have finally goit the phone and a little time to try around. could connect the phone over bluetooth (cable didn't work so far for address book sync, only for data exchange as music, ...). i could backup my contacts using the backup plugin. unfortunately, evolution only allows the import of contacts one by one, pain in the neck...
as you wrote, the address book pluging does not show in multisync. where can i find the corresponding libraries and where do i have to copy them to? (sorry: linus is still very new to me and it's still not clear where the stuff is...).
Sorry for not answering, somehow lost the reply notification.
Multisync has stopped working on me, and it sucked incredibly due
to the GUI/layout problems with SuSE, so I guess I will have to
look some further for a working sync sw...
Concerning the libs, I installed as rpm --install -v -v and noticed
that all plugin libs went to one directory, the address book ones to
another. So I just copied them over. But I can't remember...
