synaptic won't work


When I try to start synaptic I get:

linux:/usr/sbin # synaptic
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified


(synaptic:5297): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:


What am I doing wrong?

It may be your pygtk2 file is not appropriate for synaptic. How did you load synaptic?

On some distros you cant run gui programs unless you are the user who logged in (therefore started the x session). You can sort this problem out by doing "xhost +" as the user who logged in first, then switching to the new user using "su" and then runing the application you want.
