synaptic package manager won't start on 11.10
 

Using ubuntu 11.10. When I try to start the package manager it asks for my password but then that form closes & nothing happens. No error messages, no nothing. I uninstalled it & then reinstalled but still nothing. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Which password do you use: user or root? Synaptic wants root password.

user - will now try root & let you know

No package 'synaptic' in Ubuntu 11.10 by default.


Please try : sudo apt-get install synaptic

And then : sudo synaptic
