Synaptic disappears instantly after trying to start it???

Trying to open Synaptic, it asks for my password as usual. After that it appears on the screen for maybe one second and the screen goes back looking as it was before. What can you do? Don't feel very comfortable with this. I am not very good at this, so please, anyone?

Open up a terminal and start synaptic from there with "sudo synaptic". Hopefully there will be some visible error message to help diagnose the problem.

This is what I get. The first lines are in Finnish, translated to something like: The theme-engine's module cannot be found in module_path: "pixmap"

What do you make out of this?

(synaptic:2470): Gtk-WARNING **: Teemamoottorin moduulia ei löytynyt module_path:sta: ”pixmap”,

The GTK warnings are pretty meaningless, they won't usually stop something from running.

Looks like this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ic/+bug/839219

From what I've read, it is related to accessibility settings. The fix seems to be opening "Universal Access" then enable "screen reader", disable it again and then Synaptic should work.

This is all very good. There is only one minor problem: as I do not know what the Finnish words for "Universal access" are although I have been looking all over to find something matching, I would need some more explaining as to where to find the right spot. After that, I imagine the rest will be a piece of cake (hopefully...).

I'm not an Ubuntu user, but I would assume it would be in some system preferences menu. The icon should look like this:

Now I have tried to start Orca screen reader and then turn it off, even uninstalled and re-installed it, to no use.
Sudo --dpkg --configure -a, I already tried a number of times earlier, it gives me nothing in the terminal, there is nothing happening after I give my pasword...

Hey guys!
Forgive me for being too hasty, I fiddled around a bit more with Orca and to my great surprise Synaptic started working again!!! Thanks a million to elliott678!
