Question Synaptic

I have downloaded and installed Synaptic. When I attempt to run this error message appears:
There are two or more versions of the package 'j2sdk' installed in your system, which is a situation APT can't handle cleanly at the moment.
Please do one of the following:
1) Keep at most one version of the package in the system; or
2) If you do want to keep multiple versions of that package, lookup RPM::Allow-Duplicated in the documentation.

Error occured while processing j2sdk (UsePackage3)

Problem with MergeList /var/lib/rpm/Packages

It means what it says.

You have 2 packages installed of the same file, probably different version. Delete 1 of them and you're fine.

To see what versions you have type:
rpm -q j2sdk
You'll see 2 files, then uninstall one of them.
To uninstall an rpm type:
rpm -e <filename>
