Post symlink-hook: error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent dire


I am using FC4.
Suddenly today when I typr a command and tab to retrieve the entire command, i get teh following error in the terminal.
What is the cause for this error

symlink-hook: error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent dire

pwd: error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: No such file or directory



I am getting the above error if i am typing pwd command in terminal
