symbolic link to system map reset at reboot.

Oh dear here I am again!

On customising a kernel (2.6.17-5) on Mandriva spring 2007

I have the old vmlinuz and the new, old System.map and new
and so on.

I set symbolic links to the new initrd, the new System.map, the
new vmlinuz, but on reboot uname -r gives the old kernel number

and the symlink points to the old system map.

What would reset it.

All I have done to grub is add a menu.lst with the new
vmlinz and intrd image in it, just a straight copy of the example
and minor editing.

nothing should reset it.

you haven't done something silly such as having your files on a separate filesystem (/boot or something) and have modified the wrong files ??

The Homer Simpson of the Linux world says Doh!

Hi Keratos,

yes something silly.

I forgot that the default on Mandriva 2007 spring seems to be Lilo.
Set it to grub, which I thought it was, and all is fine!

Thanks Keratos!

There I was...

But that is a great thing about this website, most people with many
problems will find "similar threads" will sort it without ever
being found!

I don't care if I look daft, I love Linux until I hit sys-admin.

Even then... This site means people can learn from my mistakes!
