Sylpheed and Sendmail (Postfix)

Hi Everybody! (In Dr Nick tone :D )

Ok, so I've got my box setup currently with Postfix sending/recieving in all of my email from my hostname. This is all working great.

"So what's your question then Chad?"
Ah, glad you asked ;)
I currently use Kmail as my mail program. It's very easy to setup, and in the protocol for sending, I can just type sendmail, and it works.

HOWEVER, I am wishing to try out the infamous Sylpheed now. When I go in to set it up first time, it asks for a SMTP server for outgoing messages, I don't have an SMTP server AFAIK. I have a very small grasp on exactly how my server works, I just know it does, and how to manipulate the things I need it to do (such as aliases).

SO, the question is:
What do I put in the SMTP field for Sylpheeds setup. It will not allow me to put the path to Sendmail, nor will it allow me to leave it blank.

And as always:
any suggestions/ideas/bashes/slams/attacks/slanders/recommendations are welcome :)

OH, and maybe some info would be nice ;) :
I run Slack 8.1
Postfix 1.1.12
Um, and anything you'll need I'll be happy to provide, just let me know.

Thanks

Have you tried the hostname of your box for the server?

MasterC 01-03-2003 11:04 PM

No sir I hadn't. Thank you for the reply. I just tried it though, and it didn't seem to work. I can recieve messages (I am sure it simply queries /var/mail/spool) but I simply cannot send mail.

I will work on it some more, see if I can come up with anything, but am pretty lost at even things to try right now.

Thanks again for the response.

Cool

Woohoo! Well I don't know what to say, but I am feeling like a total moron right now. I guess maybe I was typing something wrong before, but now it works.

In the Send field, I entered:
postfix
And bam! It works...

The mystery of the typo :D

Thank you very much for your reply still stickman, it caused me to try things again, and eventually got it working.

Cool
