Switching the keyboard layout on window switch

I'd like to have a particular keyboard layout activated every time I switch a window (or an application). So that I don't have to look at the layout icon to know the current layout.
I can set a hotkey for a particular layout switch in KDE. Still, I have to activate this hotkey somehow. How can it be done?

I'm not quite sure what you want to do here. Do you mean that you want to have one application using Latin and another Cyrillic by default? If you do, then it can't be done, as far as I know.

What you can do with multiple drivers is chose whether changing a keyboard affects (a) everything, (b) only the current program, or (c) only the current window.

DavidMcCann, no I'd like the Latin layout to be activated on every window (or app) switch. So that I knew that if I swith a window the layout would be Latin and I don't have to look at the tray icon to check the layout. I think it could save me some time.

The point is, pressing a key to shift to Cyrillic layout (if needed) should be a simpler task then checking the current layout in the tray (because I often forget what the current layout is).

Then what you need is Latin set as default and what I called option (c). That way, even if you've just switched to Cyrillic, the next program started (or even a new window in the same program) will revert to Latin.

I'm sorry, I don't get it. Should the installation of another keyboard driver solve the problem?

I guess there should be a software that is able to send a key combination every time the window in focus switches. But I'm still to find it's name.

The same here! It seems that either I'm not understanding you, or you're not understanding me, or both.

OK, I'll try to put it in other words. KDE can switch to the default layout on pressing say Left Ctrl + Left Meta combination. Now, I only need a software which can send this combination (Left Ctrl + Left Meta) every time a window in focus is changed.

I don't think that such a program would be easy to write, as it would have to keep track of the activities of KDE. I've just searched SourceForge and I can't see anything like it.
