Switch to tty1 on init-5 boot?

Hello,

I need to run my FC3 system in runlevel 5 (X), but because I have a dumb monitor attached to the console, I would like the system to start X and then switch immediately to tty1 for the display (the equivilent of doing c-a-F1 immediately after X starts).

The reason is that I have a network of Sun Rays attached to the system and therefore GDM needs to be running; but because my dumb 14" monitor won't even do 1024x768, I need it attached to tty1 so it doesn't blow up.

Anyone have any idea how I might do this?

Why don't you just change resolution to 800x600?

Good question!

The answer is because on Linux, the Sun Ray sessions read the same XF86Config file that the local X session does, and I want the Sun Rays to operate at 1280x1024. Therefore the local session _also_ has to run at 1280x1024; which means either the monitor attached to the computer has to be capable of displaying that, or we have to bring up the X session without actually sending it to the monitor.
