[SOLVED] swfdec-test says "MP3 support is not available"

I just built swfdec-0.8.4 and am running the test program. It gives me an error about no MP3 support and then quits. Is mp3 a fairly necessary thing with swfdec? There are no packages from my distribution. I am using CRUXPPC.

edit: can I use swfdec-0.8.4 with swfdec-mozilla-0.8.2?

A suggestion for the future: If you answer your own question, put the solution in a separate post; this does 2 good things:

It generates e-mail to anyone who subscribed to either the thread or the forum.
In avoids the creation of oxymoronic 0-reply solved threads.
