hi,i have just upgraded from mandrake ver 10 to mandrake ver 10.1 in doing so i have lost the little menu that allows me to move from kde to gnome i suppose you could call it a dektop login menu.thank you for your help.
I haven't seen that one since I use mostly Fedora, but if you change your display manager to KDE (at least, in Fedora), KDE give you an option on the bottom of the main menu to "switch user." This lets you to have, if you wish, a KDE and GNOME session running at the same time. (You can switch between them with Ctl-Alt-F7 and Ctl-Alt-F8, etc)
This also lets you permit someone else to log in to their account without you needing to log out. (This is sometimes useful if more than one person uses your system.)
To change to use the KDE display manager (again, on Fedora, but it should be fairly similar on most systems), edit (as superuser) the file /etc/sysconfig/desktop so it looks like this:
Code:
DESKTOP="KDE"
DISPLAYMANAGER=KDE

hi p trenholme,thank you for your help,but i must rephrase my problem you see when i go to the bottom of the start menu,there i am able to logout,when i logout a small menu appears giving me three choices 1 end session 2 restart computer 3 turn off computer.wnen i used to select 1 end session another menu used to appear giving me the choice to either login to KDE or GNOME,it this menu that i have lost in the course of the upgrade.thanks.
Ah. That's the standard log-in screen you're seeing, and there should be a "button" somewhere on the screen (often at the lower left) for "Session" and another for "Menu." If you can find them, try each and see what you can see.
I think that what's happened is your "Login Screen" settings may have been changed in the upgrade, or the screen styles were "upgraded." Try changing your "Login Screen" settings.
