Swap problem

I have a system running RHEL 6 that swap appears to be 0 bytes. I have about 4Mb partitioned for it and it is defined in /etc/fstab. Rebooting does not fix the problem. I am familiar with the swapon/swapoff commands but I would like to get to the root of why the system is not running swap when it boots. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks

Did you create the swap area with the -L <label> option (i.e.: mkswap -L label_name /dev/xyz1)?

If you did not then you cannot use LABEL in your fstab, use the device name (/dev/xyz1) or the UUID (use blkid | grep swap to get the uuid).
