Svn: Create repository and Tortoisesvn

Hi team:

I am quite new to svn. Now I want to the following:

1) Create a folder "ArthurTrunk" on Linux server, use svn to control the version.
2) Use tortoisesvn to check out the "ArthurTrunk" onto my windows folder.

Now I use commands
"svnadmin create /path/to/ArthurTrunk" on Linux, the folder has the following files:

conf dav db EricHuang.tex format hooks locks README.txt svn-commit.tmp

However, when I use tortoisesvn to checkout it on Windows, by command
svn+ssh://username@server.school.edu/path/to/ArthurTrunk/ the folder is
checkout, but EMPTY!

I try to copy files into "/path/to/ArthurTrunk", and use "svn add file-name",failed with an error message:
"svn: Can't open file '.svn/entries': No such file or directory"

Then I am knocking at the wall...Damn! Am I clear? My question is how can I add files into "/path/to/ArthurTrunk" on linux and then check them out on Windows?

Thanks a lot!
