Angry suse9 install hangs

i'm still trying to get suse 9 installed. system hangs at the popup "YaST2 - Evaluating package selection" . i've searched around and found similar reports of other linuz distros with similar errors, but haven't found any with an answer. i've written SOME of the messages i found using ctrl alt f1 2 3 4 5 6 7 and they are;
xlib extension render missing on display 0.0
starting/mounts/instsys/sbin/inst_setup yast
atpi reset complete
HDC cdrom decode ststus error 0X30 last failedsense 0X03
HDC cdrom decode ststus error 0X51 driveread y seek complete error[ this one's a bit tough since it keeps trying and the screen scrolls]

i've tried the manual install, nothing makes any difference. i'm a windows xp user and most unfamiliar with command line. the machine it's going on is an old p2[233] with 128ram. i understand this is a learning event, but a roadblock stops most of the learning. i await a reply, a clue, etc. thanks, tomt

I had the same problem. Turned out to be 3 corrupt files on CD1. I installed from the DVD and that worked fine.

ck sum

i just tried a "safe" install and got past the problem area, 'though i did see some "error" when in "f4, and yast got to "partition"; i didn't proceed, not having a maunal, i don't know what a "safe" install is. rebooted and tried "standard"[my word] install and it stopped at the same problem point that i originally had cited in my first post.
"confused? you won't be after watching the next episode of SOAP!" thanks for the posts, tt
