SuSE problem
Hi all,
I'm installing the latest SuSE on my PII 233 32mb ram. I know the system requirements are higher than that, but I was hoping that it would work anyway. When I come to the point where you have to set up your video settings, and I test it, I just get first a grey, than a blue screen and then my monitor falls out. However SuSE recognizes both the monitor and the video card, so the values are correct. Is it impossible for me to run X windows on SuSE 7.3, or can somebody help me out? If it is impossible, can someone give me a good recommendation for another up-to-date linux distribution which I can run on my slow pc? Thanks a lot! Wim |
video and monitor specs would help us out.....

oki here ya go
From the manuals: video card: ------------- NITRO 3D 2MB - PCI bus Windows/3D Acelerator with superVGA 64-bit graphics accelerator with integrated Digital Video Engine and accelerated 3D, texture map and shading functions standard VESA refresh rates of 75, 85 and 100 Hz for 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768 max of 16.7 M colors at 1024x768 Ultra-high refresh rates up to 160 Hz DDC-2B support for Plug-and-Play monitors monitor: ---------- DELL D825TM Horiz. delfection freq: 30 to 70 kHz Vert. deflection freq: 50 to 120 Hz Refresh rates: Resolution Suggested Max 640x480 85 Hz 120 Hz 800x600 85 Hz 110 Hz 1024x768 85 Hz 85 Hz 1280x1024 60 Hz 60 Hz But SuSE recognize both video card and monitor, so I don't see why linux would suggest wrong values. The only thing strange (?) is SuSE doesn't allow me to enable the 3D acceleration. I hope you can help me out! Thanks, Wim |
