Post Suse - a headache and a half ...

Well, I had tried to install Oracle 10.2 on Opensuse 10.3. Ran into all sorts of issues (that I got past) but the main one that takes the cake is that SPident doesn't exist on Opensuse 10.3.

I originally wanted to use SLES 10 (and would have paid for it) except the installation CD did not recognize the CD I had. Calling Suse about the problem yielded nothing - not even a hint. HP was even worse - they only support Micorsoft.

So, I went to Opensuse 10.3 (11.0 was too high for the software I was trying to install). The fact that it recognized my CD was a curse in disguie because some thing that should have taken me a few days to install is now taking me forever and it looks as though I will have to start all over again because of the problems in the code.

Just letting anyone else out there know about working with this product. I think that it is OK ***by itself*** but think twice if you plan to install any other software (outside the Suse distribution) on it (like Oracle). It doesn't seem to like to play nicely with the other kids.

If you rely on SPident - this is part of the enterprise version only.

Maybe borrow/by another drive which will recognize the SLES CD's you have?
Or copy and re-burn them and try those copies?
