Suse 9.1 Gets to GRUB and stops...

Hello, im very new to all this linux stuff.

Ive installed suse 9.1 on one of my seperate drives on my pc, thus making completely seperate to xp. i made the boot options boot off that drive (ithink)

So my thinking was that it i can boot linux or xp ocording to the selected drive in bios.

But when i selected the linux hd, its boots and the word GRUB appears. and stops there.
what have i done wrong???

Thanks in advance

Jim

Was it the word GRUB repeated over and over again, or was it grub> like it's a command line. If the latter, I ran into that recently after Partition Magic crashed. If it's the latter, you'll want to google and find out how to get grub to rewrite the master boot record (or maybe someone here can tell you - I ended up reinstalling because I couldn't figure it out and had no internet to ask here).
BTW, after you get that working, you can use grub to dual boot - you'll get a screen asking if you want to boot linux or windows. Assuming that linux is the master drive and windows is on the first partition of the second hard drive, add the following to your /etc/grub.conf file:

title Windows XP
rootnoverify (hd1,0)
chainloader +1

The values to place in parentheses are hard drive, partition. Both begin counting at zero, so the first partition on the first drive would be (hd0,0), and the fifth partition on the third hard drive would be (hd2,4), and so on.

This may help with reinstalling grub on the MBR:
