Suse 9.1 Corrupt Kernel
Hi all,
I have a problem. I have installed Suse 9.1 3 times now, and cannot get it to work. It installs and boots up, and the screen appears, but several functions are disabled: the system will not recognise my cd/dvd drive, my floppy drive nor my Windows partitions; it is missing may modules in the kernel (lsmod lists only 2 loaded) and tells me that the kernel is not compiled for ppp support, despite Yast telling me that ppp is installed. Yesterday, I spoke with a technician named Paul who told me - as had the helpdesk, by email - that all of this was down to my having a USB ADSL modem and nothing to do with Suse! Eventually, Paul admitted that the kernel was corrupt and advised me to re-install it from the installation disk. Under his instruction, I did this. Today when I booted up Suse 9.1, all of the problems had re-occurred: I cannot even access the cd/dvd drive to re-install the kernel. I have written to Suse directly asking for a replacement distro, as I fell the package I was sent must be in some way corrupt or badly produced. Has anyone else had this problem? I must add that I wrote to both the UK and German offices today, and Suse have not even had the courtesy to acknowledge my e-mail. As you can understand, I am not happy! david911 |
