suse 9.0 professional , setting as server

ok , i got my suse 9.0 cds and did an install , now im trying to set iy up as a FTP /EMAIL/WEB host , so far what ive done is install the apache package using YaST , then installed the Courier-Imap Package , and then installed proftpd , from the bz archive , using , gcc and automake , now what ive run into is the httpd.conf i modified and set to the proper setting as what the general files told me to , and tried to pair it up witha RH 8.0 box , well the conf files are differnt , now when i go tothe www page in IE 6 from my xp box it says , forbiden , , so im a tad lost there.

For courier -imap , im not sure where any of the conf files are , im switching over from a failed expeariment called RH 8.0 ( to many problems ) not enuf support) so i need a starting point on configureing my email server in suse..

Ftp , well i cant seem to find the proftp stuff i " think i installed " so i tried the other ftp server ,and i cant make any heads or tails of that , i cant even find the www folder under /var/ so i guess im gonna need a crash course on getting started on getting that running toooo....

btw what base is SuSE , i see it has RPM packages , does that mean its redhad based but made better ???

any and all help is appreciated
