suse 8.1 can't see two processors
Hi,
We have a two processor Intel Xeon machine. I installed Suse 8.1 on this. The system can't see both processors. Here is the output of uname and cat /proc/cpuinfo. Has anyone seen this or has some recommendations. Thanks, uname -r 2.4.19-64GB-SMP processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 15 model : 2 model name : Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 2.66GHz stepping : 7 cpu MHz : 2658.120 cache size : 512 KB physical id : 0 threads : 1 fdiv_bug : no hlt_bug : no f00f_bug : no coma_bug : no fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 2 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm bogomips : 5308.41 |
I would guess you have to re-compile the kernel for SMP support... I don't know much about that -- I just use Mandrake 9.1 for my machines. Single or multi processor configurations get configured properly with the Mandrake install. They have an SMP kernel and an Enterprise kernel that both show up on the menu after installation. I guess the enterprise one is for systems with large memory. I use that one and specify 'mem=2048M' in my Lilo configuration.

Strange...
Your Kernel SAYS its an SMP kernel.
What does uname -a return? And the vodoo solution... does it still do it after you reboot? |
it worked finally
Well, guess what, the BIOS settings had hyperthreading off. Once I turned it ON both processors were seen.
