SuSE 8.0 and kfm super-user mode?
I just installed SuSE 8.0 and so far am very happy. However, I cannot seem to run the 'File Manager Super-user mode' from the start menu? It asks for the password and then does nothing...disappears. I don't believe I can get any apps to run as root user. I assume it's a permissions problem. Any help would be appreciated...

Are you sure you enter the correct root password? (I never had such problems with kfm, although I have similar with kuser).

The password is correct. If I type in the incorrect password it will reject it and request another. Have you seen this behavior in SuSE 8.0 before? Maybe I should clarify: again, I can login as root and everything works fine. However, as a regular user, I cannot launch the 'File Manager Superuser Mode' from the menu with the root password. And it seems I cannot launch any programs as root using the 'Launch as a different user'.

Well I figured something out: the KFM will load as su on a default install. However, after I ran the online update it will no longer run KFM as su (from the KDE menu). I also cannot launch anyother programs as root by using the 'run as different user' option when creating desktop links.
The CL works as root though, and I can lauch the application by su'ing typing the executable. Any other users with SuSE 8.0 see this behavior? Thanks... |
