SUSE 10 and faxing
Hey all!
I've been trying Linux for about a year now and have gone from Mandrake 9.0 to Mandriva 2006 on an old 533mhz machine with 256 mg ram. I had a friend download the 5 CD's for SUSE 10 and just installed it a few days ago. Since I am on dialup, the only hiccup was getting online but that was corrected once I configured the modem. I like SUSE but have these questions:
Is Open Office supposed to be that slow?
How can I get Open Office to fax directly? (In Windows MS Word simply had a print to fax which brought up the GUI for Hotfax Message Center and off I went.)
How can I update through YAST with CD's as I am on dialup and the YOU files were 156mb?
Thanks to all if you can help!

So, nobody uses Linux for faxing? How odd. I guess I'll figure it out on my own.
Thanks anyway.

Well, I haven't been able to fix this on my own. My question is:
How do you fax in SUSE 10? Is anyone faxing with no problems?

I think a better place for this would be the linux software section, you should try reporting your own post and request being moved there. I believe that you are looking for a software fax through phone(or maybe e-mail I dunno) program, and the best place to get help is probably there.

I don't know whether OO can fax by itself or is lacking this feature -- if so, you might sent them a feature request.
I use a U.S.Robotics 56k faxmodem. There are several software packages for that:
http://www.icewalkers.com/Linux/Soft...480/gefax.html
http://www.icewalkers.com/download/gefax/1248/dld/
http://www.hylafax.org/
http://shino.pos.to/linux/tkscanfax_e.html
http://packages.debian.org/testing/comm/tkusr
http://www.gantz-edv.de/mlo/kmlofax_e.html
http://kmsgmodem.berlios.de/
The last one is specifically for U.S.Robotics 56k message-modems, but it doesn't work (yet) on my machine.
Lastly, there are fax-applications integrated in KDE (just search in the menues). Also try Kword, fax might be integrated here and it is developing fast.
And then, start YAST -> "install and delete software" and search there for "fax", maybe you don't yet have installed what you need...

Hey, thanks for the links. Although I had already looked into hylafax, the gefax looks promising. Download isn't working right now but I'll try later. Thanks again.
