suse 10.3 + compiz fusion + several updates --> scrambled characters on screen?

Hi all. I have recently made a few updates to my opensuse 10.3 system. Everything runs fine with the exception of a single program I use -- it is a custom written fortran program for science use. I have never noticed this problem with it before -- now characters are getting "overwritten" in the console, but not really cleared.

It's not happening in any other console window.

There is an example here:

Updates I have done recently which may affect it are:
Kernel (now at
Compiz fusion (now using latest available)
NVIDIA (moved from 100.14.19 to 169.09)

The problem does not occur on my laptop, which has essentially the same configuration.

The problem also does not occur if I am on the same desktop -- only if I am on another desktop, then switch back. (As implied above, I'm running compiz fusion). I am running compiz with the --no-libgl-fallback option.

Also, if I highlight the affected area, the problem vanishes... i.e. it's more cosmetic and annoying than anything.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

After installing the 3 D driver from the Nvidia site the problem disappear and every think was better in proportion .
