I had an Suse 9.2 / KDE 3.4 installation working with Kaffeince as the media player. It did everything - avi, mpg, mov, commercial DVDs and audio formats like mp3. I had to install some additional codecs (from mplayer) for this to work, but it worked fine. I have now got a new really big disk, on which I installed Suse 10.1 which comes with KDE 3.5.1. But no matter what mplayer codecs I try and install, and the libdvdcss package - no video or audio format wants to play through either xine itself or through kaffeine. Is there something you have to do with new newer Suse / KDE combo that you did not have to bother with under the older versions?
Did you add the packman.link2linux.org suse repository site? Also add on the installation source (/inst-source) and extra (/non-oss-inst-source) directories from the suse 10.1 mirrors. Then run yast and install things like zine and mplayer from what it says are the latest versions and try again.
Got three quarters of the way there by complete install (not just adding the codecs from)Mplayer. All formats that I'vew tried now work in kaffeine - except commercial DVDs. So I will have another go at installing latest libdvdcss.
