Suse 10.0 after update unable to use Yast.

Since I did an update am unable to use Yast to introduse new software or hardware. When I click on YOU icon I get amessage to inform me to look in
/var/log/yast2, which I found empty. However if I look in /var/lib/yast2 there is 20 files. root also is empty. I was also informed to do a config.
So I did a su to get into root then a SuSEconfigfiles which was carried out OK, but did not cure the problem. Is there a way of getting out of this situation without doing an Install.

I just clicked on the You button and let the the updates selected run.
I am not sure that the updates caused the problem, the you message seemed to suggest this. I am not really sure how long the problem has been present as the only thing that is not working is Yast. It wasn't until I needed to use Yast that I realised the problem existed.

I have moved on since this message. I purchased the boxed version of SUSE 10.3, so that I had support from Novell. First of all I had a repeat of this problem. So I obtained support and was Advised to take a backup of my Home files and do the Install again.
This I did, and am now Highly delighted with this version.
Having done this I realised where I went wrong the first time, I did an update and not an install, the update left me with the 10.0 Desktop where I assume the trouble must have been.
The 10.3 as I said earlier has given me no problems at all so far. Hope this info may be of use to someone.
