Not the case for me. I have to try to create other non-first user account to do a lot of tests.
Frankly I do not use sudo. I always do su - , login and then run gparted. For some reason gparted has some set DISPLAY problem (
all that gparted/Xorg/wayland bad combination) on the root account that
one has to run gparted from a user account. If I had know to avoid "sudo gparted" by Applications -> System Tools -> gparted that will work fine too.

The issue with the display is because you logged in to root with 'su -'. Using that gives the root user its own environment which does not include inheriting the $DISPLAY variable from the non-root user. If you try 'sudo gparted' it should work, as would switching to the root user with ' su ' and not switching the environment.
