Sudo and X11 programs

On my Slackware 10.0 laptop, I can run X11 programs using sudo just fine, i.e. "sudo ethereal". On my new Gentoo box, it tells me that GTK can't find the display. I tried making a symlink to the .Xauthority file in my $HOME directory, but that didn't work either. I never really configured anything in Slack; it "just worked". Any ideas?

Ok, I apologize for wating bandwidth, but maybe someone can learn from my lack of patience.

There is a section in the /etc/sudoers file called "Defaults". In my Gentoo box, it was set to reset environment variables. But in my Slack box, it was not. I removed it from the Gentoo box, and it works like a charm. I hope this may help someone.
