su with konqueror

lo

plz, if anyone can tell how to run konqueror using su as a user

ta in advance

seabass55 07-11-2003 08:39 PM

wtf is su? (it does not mean superuser)

you mean root? why in the world would you want to do that?

Just login as root...startx and start konqueror

Unless I'm totally off base as to what you're asking

yeah, not 100% sure what you mean, but there is a KDE application somewhere on the main menu for "file manager in superuser mode." that should open konqueror as root. (be careful :p )

p.s. seabass, i think "su" means "set user."

I assume you are looking for the "kdesu" command. Executing kdesu konqueror allows you to run konqueror, for example, as root once you put the root password in.

super user
set user
switch user
are all used often but it's actually substitute user

(sorry I don't mind set or switch but when people call it super user it bugs me)

Start Applications -> Applications -> File tools -> File Manager - Super User Mode

That's in KDE though.

lol..soz

soz.. wasnt aware there was so many meanings for the acro, i meant super user( in my terms) "su root" as the command" , the reason i want to use it is to save time *much easier than ,logout, login, startx,* if u guys could give me the command if i was to start it from console... im using fluxbox btw....

InSane103 07-12-2003 11:29 AM

From command line:
su
then enter your password for the root account.

seabass55 07-12-2003 12:55 PM

No problem dude..."The more you know"

"su" for root
"su -" for root and root login strip (paths and stuff change and you start off in /root)
and as root "su <username>" and be anyone without a password
