Red face su: permission denied


help! i have just installed gentoo, and so far it beats the hell out of mandrake. however. when i type in su (or su root, or su - root, or su into another user i created to test with):

# su
Password:
su: Permission denied
Sorry.

??? it is sorry? i know i have the right password, because i can log in normally as root. i created the user with:

# useradd my_name -m -G users,wheel,audio -s /bin/bash

btw wat is the group wheel for?

read the gentoo forums, you need to add your user to the wheel group if I remember correctly, there's a ton of info on the gentoo forums about this.
