su cvs is giving .bashrc permission denied error

Hi,

I am trying to install a cvs server on my machine.I created the user cvs and group cvs.I don't have inetd.conf and xinetd.conf files in my system. So I created ine inetd.conf file and made an entry for cvs.I don't have inet or xinet in my services file.I am using Redhat linux-2.6.18 version. After this when I am trying to log in as cvs(su cvs),I am getting a "/path-to-cvsroot//.bashrc permission denied" error. Why I am getting so?Any ideas are welcome. Thanks in advance.

1st place to check is your /etc/passwd file.
cat /etc/passwd | grep cvs
