how can i get streaming mp3 audio through linux? (would prefer to avoid real player.)

i looked through man xmms, but didn't see anything about internet audio. entering the URL into Play Location didn't work -- xmms didn't do anything with it. do i need some other software? i really don't have a clue about how to go about figuring this one out. thx

-- setting up mozilla helper apps with the correct MIME types now to see if that works.
