strange terminal message when using "firejail thunderbird"

Hi altogehter,

as of late my terminal produces a curious info message when I use thunderbird. I have to add that I start thunderbird within a sandbox (firejail) using the command

Code:
rosika@rosika-Lenovo-H520e ~> firejail thunderbird
Reading profile /etc/firejail/thunderbird.profile
Reading profile /etc/firejail/disable-mgmt.inc
Reading profile /etc/firejail/disable-secret.inc
Reading profile /etc/firejail/disable-devel.inc
Parent pid 6944, child pid 6945
Blacklist violations are logged to syslog
Until recently that worked fine.
But now I get the message (not always but rather often)

Code:
Error moving window, closing window
Error moving window, closing window
Error moving window, closing window
Error moving window, closing window
Error moving window, closing window
Error moving window, closing window
Error moving window, closing window
Error moving window, closing window
Error moving window, closing window
Error moving window, closing window
Error moving window, closing window
Error moving window, closing window
Error moving window, closing window
Error moving window, closing window
Error moving window, closing window
That gets on endlessly.
Curious though that thunderbird itsfelf doesnīt show any unusual behaviour whatsoever. It just works well. Yet the terminal output got me worried.
And I donīt understand it because I didnīt move the window. Anyway what window? Thunderbirdīs?
And it didnīt get closed either.

The thing is, I cannot tell whether that phenomenon is produced by firejail or by thunderbird.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.
Rosika

What happens if you start thunderbird without firejail? Try several times to see if same thing will happen without firejail.

Hi dejank,

thanks for the suggestion. O.K., but that may take a while.
As I said this phenomenon doesnīt occur every time I use thunderbird.

In the meantime I think what might be the culprit here.
Every once in a while it occurs that a message in an open tab cannot be deleted by clicking on "delete".
To be more precise: It really is deleted but the tab remains open and wonīt vanish as it should.
I havenīt the faintest idea why that is.

In those cases I shut thunderbird and retstart it. After that everything works fine.
Of course it didnīt enter my mind to take a look at the terminal, so I cannot say whether that phenomenon produced the message.

If this really is the case then it seems to be a matter of thunderbird rather than firejail.

So for now Iīll have to wait and see.......

Greetings
Rosika

*****UPDATE*****

Now I found out that this has nothing to do with the strange behaviour in question.
It happened just again.

So what Iīm going to do now is run thunderbird outside of firejail, as you suggested, dejank.
As soon as I know more Iīll post the results.

Cheers.

*****NEW UPDATE*****

I found out that the problem has nothing to do with firejail.
I ran thunderbird "normally" and it happened again.

It seems it has something to do with the junk-folder.
After starting thunderbird it automatically scans for new e-mails. Amongst them there are some considered to be junk. Therefore thunderbird puts them in the junk-folder.

An thatīs when the error-message is displayed.

Now I know the reason but why is that and what can I do about it?

Greetings.

File bug report about it, or first search bug base of thunderbird to see if it already exists. Also, it might be that your distribution version is effected by that bug and that upstream has newer version where bug was fixed. So, perhaps you will have to report that bug to your distribution.

Hi dejank,

good suggestion, thanks.

I found https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ . This seems to be the place to start.

*****SOLUTION*****

In the meantime I filed a bug-report.
Response:

Quote:
looks like those messages are printed by one of your add-ons (possibly Mailbox Alert, but could be different one)
try disabling your add-ons.
And indeed. Iīve got Mailbox Alert installed. Now I come to think of it it seems that I get those messages since the date of installment of this add-on.

It looks like Iīve got to disable Mailbox Alert. Itīs a shame though as I installed it for a reason. Thunderbirdīs own mail-alert service worked rather unreliably.

Greetings.
Rosika
