Strange printer state, CUPS, Xerox WC 4118p

Hello!
I'm using Debian 4.0 stable, CUPS 1.2.7 and Xerox WorkCenter 4118p MFP.
MFP is installed with Xerox 4512 Gutenprint drivers, because there were no Linux drivers on original CD. Printer works well withoup any problems.
Using http://localhost:631/ I see, that printer state is "Idle". Then I open toner door or taking out paper tray. On MFP's LCD I see different errors (like "Door open", "No paper"), but the state of the printer in http://localhost:631/ is still "Idle". Is in normal? Is there any way to monitor REAL printer state?
A lot of thanks in advance.

Alexander
