strange highlighting problem in Kate and KWrite

hello i'm sorry to bother you all

does anyone know about highlighting in Kate for kde? I wanted to change the syntax higlighting for fortran, so i edited the file

~/.kde/share/apps/katepart/syntax/fortran.xml

in my home folder. Kate did not want to accept the changes, but KWrite did!!!! Does anyone knows what the reason might be? I'd like to code in Kate.

I'm using Kate 2.4.1 for kde 3.4.2 in suse 10.0. Is there something special i forgot?

the only thing i can think is that some other configuration file is taking priority.
did you try changing the one in $KDEDIR/share/apps/katepart/syntax
sometimes if you choose some options in kde menu interface those options get written to some of the app generated files in the ~/.kde directory. if these values are overriding something sometimes its easiest to just backup the ~/.kde directory and start over with the welcome wizard.
