Question strange goings on with lmms?

I have an odd problem,im running ubuntu studio 8.04.
the problem is when i start lmms(0.4.0)i get the startup screen asking
for sound device etc.it does this whenever i start it?
therefore i get no sound.however when i start lmms from a terminal
with sudo,it works fine?is there a fix for this?
ive reinstalled, but this has no effect.lmms was working fine before
an update.any help would be greatly appreciated!!

You might have some problems with permissions. It doesn't store the configuration info in lmms's config file as you don't have permissions to write to it as a normal user. Perhaps, add your user to the audio group (if such exists) or change permissions on lmms config file. I don't know - it's just a guess
