Strange behaviour of Dragon Player/Phonon (audio but no video)


This is a real head-scratcher. Hopefully I've supplied all the relevant info.
Summary:
Dragon Player - audio fine but no video

All other video players works correctly: vlc, mplayer, flash ...
Details:
Debian Wheezy 3.0.0-6.dmz.1-liquorix-amd64
Using Alsa not Pulse

Now I'm totally confused but the problem is "solved" (I guess). In the KDE system settings-->Multimedia, I reconfigured Phonon's backend from gstreamer to xine and poof!!! video came back to Dragon player (and, I suppose, to Phonon in general but I haven't tested that yet. I'll try running kmplayer with a phonon video player setting and see if that works. I'm predicting it does. I'm confused because I thought xine was dead and buried.
