Strange behavior with KDE

Hello All,

I have been experiencing some strange behavior with KDE. The past three times I have shut down and either rebooted or restarted my machine and gone into KDE certain elements of my desktop have changed. The first things to change were my backgrounds, both on the desktop and on login manager. I changed these back to what they were before and went on my merry way. On the next login none of my multimedia players would read from /mnt/cdrom and only Mplayer would play mp3s. Very strange. So I rebooted and this time it was as if I booted into someone else's KDE desktop, except for the background--that was still the same. However, my icon theme was different, color scheme was different, my font scheme was different. The applications in my task were different. I suppose they had all been reset to default. I did not make any of these changes. Very strange....

Does this sound like anything to anyone? I am pretty knew but not helpless and this just baffles me.

I am running kde 3.2.branch on mdk10.

Shoot, since I am rambling away about KDE...I recently upgraded KDE from 3.2.Branch to 3.2.2, I am not sure if it took however. I used the rmps from Mandrake and have also ran urpmi --auto-select and I am alerted that everything is already installed. But when I open KDE control center it reads that I am still running 3.2. branch. Just curious if this is normal or is there a problem with the update.

Thanks for any help or information.

Thomas

This all sounds update related, as your upgrading, bits of your set up are being reset. ( the package has config files with it. ) It shouldn't normally happen. depends on the way the packages are being upgraded.

3.2.2 is still the 3.2 branch. If it says "3.2 branch" that should be fine. Mine however just states "3.2.2". Depends on the packager I expect.
