stopping artsd from running at boot time

When I log in as root to this Fedora Core 4 box, I see the following message:

Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device: default can't be opened for playback (Invalid argument)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

I understand that if I stop artsd then this will go away.
How do I stop this daemon?
How do I restart later if I need it?

To stop it, I looked in the KDE Control Center
but it is not clear (to me) where I can artsd?

KDE Control Center is the correct place.
Under Sound & Multimedia / Sound System uncheck "Enable the Sound System"

This will disable arts.

HTH.
