Stop motion animation, webcam, +++

I want to set up a workstation for making stop motion animations, an I'm not sure what distro I should use, and what kind of sotware i need.

I've found a nice little program, Framegraber, that uses a webcam to cature the images. My problem is that I'm not able to kompile a new kernel on my debian based laptop, so I cant use the spca50x module that my webcam need.

Is there any ditro that have support for a range of newer webcams? Or is there other solutions to my problem?

The program that I need is as follow:

- A framegrabbing program
- Program to make avi or mpeg from a series of jpeg, png or tiff images
- Videoediting program (kino looks nice)
- program to sample sound

- Any others?
