Still, Java doesn't work, LOL.

I've installed Java once, and Konqueror has Java working, but Mozilla, it will not work.

I've tried to do that symlink from the other thread, but my Java still doesn't work for Mozilla. It works for Konqueror though. It's annoying more than anything, but I would like it to work on Mozilla.......

ANybody?

newer versions of mozilla 1.4 and up need to link to the gcc3.2 compiled plugin.

something like this: /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_02/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32

I symlinked to that ns610-gcc 32......and I STILL don't have a working Java...deleted all the plug-ins too with the exception of my Mplayer and Shockwave(delete all stock plug-ins)....

I originally installed it on my own...then I REinstalled it via following directions on the other Java problem thread...and I STILL don't have it working. Fiddled with it for a couple days and still no luck. I have Mozilla 1.5......if that helps any.....

where did you make the simlink to? /usr/local/mozilla/plugins? you did do a generic install using the installer from mozilla.org?

I made the symlink to /usr/local/mozilla1.5/plugins where my Mplayer plug-in etc are at. It's funny, cause if I view my Konqueror plug-in directory, there's no symlink or anything of Java......

Nope, I did the install WORD BY WORD by the ones given on this site that seemed to fix everybody elses Mozilla Java issues.

Which is why it's killing me. I tried to just copy/paste the .so file like I did for the Mplayer plug-in for mozilla, and it didn't work. I sym-linked it.....still didn't work....

Did SUSE install Mozilla into /usr/local/mozilla1.5?

If you downloaded Mozilla 1.5 yourself and put it in that directory, the stock Mozilla installation might still exist somewhere. Or even worse (which happened to me), the old Mozilla files were deleted but the new Mozilla still used the old plugins directory in the now-empty folder.

Look for a folder called mozilla with nothing in it except for a "plugins" folder. That might be where Mozilla is looking for plugins. Try /usr/lib/mozilla

Naw, I installed Mozilla myself. When I DL Mozilla1.5 it told me I needed to remove my old Mozilla, so I did so. I don't have Mozilla folder in usr/lib......odd.

I have the Mozilla1.5 folder in my home/oicdn/documents. The unpackaged Mozilla file created the "Mozilla Installer" folder, and when installing Mozilla 1.5, it created "Mozilla". I moved that "Mozilla Installer" folder into the "Mozilla 1.5" Folder, so now, Mozilla1.5 contains Mozilla(that has the libraries, plug-ins etc.) and the Mozilla Installer.....so all my Mozilla stuff is accessed through there.....

My Mozilla Plugins now only have the Shockwave and Mplayer plug-in.

Man, this sucks...LOL. Why can't my problem be solved like everybody elses, LOL.

So you searched for a folder called "plugins" and the only ones you found were at /usr/local/mozilla1.5 or /home/oicdn/documents/mozilla?

Anything that concerned browsers(I did a search and came up with MULTIPLE "plugins" folders), here are the ones I found:

home/oicdn/.mozilla
home/oicdn/mozilla1.5
home/oicdn/.netscape
home/oicdn/.netscape6

It's odd, because other than the /mozilla1.5 those .netscape, .netscape6, and .mozilla aren't ANYWHERE showing on the GUI. Like home/oicdn/documents..documents has an icon, the . xxxxx don't show up...and why is there a period (.) in front of the word?

Oddly, when I type the word "plug-ins" in the file search only Audacity and Gimp showed up. So I guess only "Plugins" exists, not "plug-ins".....atleast that helps narrow down a search, unless capitalization matters....then...I could be here awhile, LOL. But I doubt that, cause some "Plugins" showed up with "plugins" so I don't think it matters, unlike in script, where it does......

**edit** Also, when I opened that .netscape plugins folder, it was empty, however, when I opened .netscape6 it has Flashplayer and Flashplayer.xpt in it.....but I doubt that matters, just thought you might have wanted to know....

The . in front of the directory or file name means it's a hidden directory or file.

/.mozilla is hidden
/mozilla is not

Linux is case sensitive.

I know it's case sensitive, but during the search it wasn't. Hence the it finding "Plugins" and "plugins".

I just don't know what the problem is tow hy I can't get this Java working..... LOL.

Suns' Java most certainly works....try this;

Good symlink:
ln -s
/usr/java/j2re1.4.2_02/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so

Notice the specific version of mozilla is removed.

Make sure you substitute 'your' version #'s..& the correct location...the above is from a Fedora RC1 install.

This also works. Do what lovswr suggested but make the symlink to (for example) /home/Bob/.mozilla/plugin . Create the "plugin" folder if it doesn't exist in ".mozilla". It should work the next time you start mozilla.

FINALLY!!!!!! I have Java!!! I had to do it this way on the script:

Log in as SU on shell. Change to the directory:
~/.mozilla/plugins #

then do:

ln -s /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_02/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so

For somereason, if I tried to symlink in one large text line, the icon I would get would be a gold page symlink, not a symlink of the actual libjavaplugin_oji.so so THAT's why it wasn't working. Once I started doing it all one line at a time, everything worked out.....

Also, I didn't try to symlink to the unhidden Mozilla folder....but shit, it works this way, LOL.

Finally, I have Java working on Mozilla AND Konqueror......thanks everybody!!!!!!
