Still can't install java please help Mozilla

Guy's i still can't install java being a newbie i just decided to reinstall the OS again Redhat 9

i then install mozilla 1.5

downloaded java ( j2re-1_4_2_03-linux-i586.rpm) ran console

then i type rpm -ivh j2re-1_4_2_03-linux-i586.rpm this as you all guro's know install java

after making 100000 mistakes i have leart that you have to create a sybolick link correct ma spelling please.

so i then ran this command

ln -sf /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_03/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/

all the above work fine i then browse to mozilla/plugins and found the above * file there.

ok you would have thought this has work i then try to visit this site

thats my site and guess what java is not working it asking me to download this java again so i did and still it does not work

guy's what ever happens i an't going back to MS product so please help me. what the hell has gone wrong.

After installing the plugin you normally have about 30MIME Types for Java when you go to about->plugins,
do you have all these MIME types ?

su root
cd /usr/local/mozilla/plugins
rm -f *
ln -s /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_03/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/

I just got it working on mine.. I turned out the link in my mozilla/plugins folder was set to the WRONG path for java.. Once I determined where it was I fired off an..

ln -s /usr/lib/java/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/

and it began to work..

i've installed java quite a few times on various distros, following these instructions and haven't had any problems. making the symbolic link is the most important step

it was a nightmare for me at 1st.. what I didnt know was my link to my java plugin was bad. My JRE folder was not as stated on java's site. it was /jre/

Once my java plugin link was correct it worked..

took me a while to get it working :P but now I can do it in seconds...

i run Andrews command and it work i can't belive it

case close wow it worked

thanks guy's My next step is to install realplayer and then get all my hardware to work on linux I shall do a help sheet on how to install the basic on Mozilla for newbies
