startx

-su: startx: command not found

The problem started with an error message i did not write down regarding .Xauthority(i didn't find anything the Xfree86.log)
Now startx command not found.This is crazy,please help !(I will try to provide more logs errors next time!)

also post your XFConfig86-4 file. have you tried starting x as root?

su -
enter p/w
startx

and see what happens.

Looks like a permission problem to me. For example lets say you were working as a non-privileged (not as root, let's say 'gabrix') user and then for some reason you used su (not 'su - ') into root. Then you are still in the directory where gabrix was, and if you start X from there, a .Xauthority file is created there.

Then as the user gabrix you try to start x (not as root). Then there's a permission conflict because .Xauthority now has root for the owner. This can be sorted out either by #chown gabrix .Xauthority (as root to change the ownership) or removing the file.

You got really close to what really happened.logging in with ssh from an another macine as gabrix couldn't startx.Now my desktop doesn't start and i don't know how to avoid this in the future ..........Xuthority is owned by gabrix but is like gabrix is not gabrix!??????
