startup script question

Hi all-

I'm a bit of a Linux noob, and ran into something I don't understand and haven't been able to Google up the answer for.

I just installed Red Hat 9, and when logging in as root to mess with settings both Evolution and Open Office always start automatically. This is a bit of an annoyance as this isn't the fastest machine in the universe so there's a 30-45 second delay while stuff loads before I can quit out of it. At first I thought it might be a first-run initialization, but it has happened multiple times now.

With my limited Linux background, I've checked init.d, rc.d, and .profile to see if these programs were being launched from any of those, and I don't see anything that I recognize as being instructions to launch these programs. Is there anywhere else I should be looking to turn this autolaunching off?

Thanks in advance,

It will be in the configuration parameters for your GUI. If you are running KDE it will be in kcontrol someplace. I don't remember the Gnome configuration program name offhand.

Be prepared. Create a LifeBoat CD.
